EMPIRE DEFENCE.

- ■ CANADIAN DREADNCIUG UTS. OTTAWA, May Tl. Thu Senate by 51. votes to 27 votes rejected the Naval Bill. Mr Borden will probably introduce a Redistribution Bill ami dissolve the House in the autumn. LONDON, dune 1. The ‘‘Daily Telegraph” (Unionist) and ‘‘Daily Mail” (Unionist), commenting on the rejection of Mr Borden’s Bill, emphasises the need for the Admiralty laying down three warships immediately in accordance with Mr Churchill’s speech of April I, with reference to the whole of the Empire’s requirements.

The “Daily Chronicle” (liberal) says that both Mr Borden’s and Sir Milfrid Laurier's proposals are for Canada to help the Motherland. Doubtless the help will be eventually given. A section of the public opinion is against Mr Borden's Bill. The Senate clearly has not the majority of the electorate behind it. The Duke of Connaught opened the Imperial Services Exhibition at Earls Court, and witnessed a demonstration of naval aerial warfare.
