PROPOSED NEW CALENDAR.

MELBOURNE, Marck 28. Tlic Federal Government has received a communication from the British Board of Trade endorsing of the Associated Chambers of Commerce in favour of an alteration ol the calendar. The scheme provides :-- Firstly, that New Year's Day be regarded as "dies non," not to bo counted as belonging' to -any month oi week. Secondly, that the present extra day in leap year fbta interpolated in the 'middle of each fourth year an; ■ treated as a dies non. Thirdly, that the remainder of the year be divided into four Quarters, each eon'taining two months of thirty days and one month of thirty-one days. Under this ' ammgement each year begins on the same day of the week, and Christmas i Day also falls on the same djay of the week. Fourthly, Easter to be a fixed instead of a movable feast.
