TEMUKA CATHOLIC CLUB AND ATHLETIC FOOTBALL CLUB:

The annual mealing of the Catholic Clul) and Athletic Football Club was hold in tlio Club rooms, Temuka, on '.llnuvsday evening. There was a largo attendance, and Air E. B. Gillespie (president) occupied the chair. The following annual report was read : Your executive have much pleasure in preserving this, the seventh annual report:—J»ei)i{)Oi'.s]iip.-JJuri»jr the y« t r tlie membership has increased ibyaijoui, •2>>, and we kve n o w ajbiout luti names on the roll. The amount received in.* subscriptions this year is £lO 10s in excess of VM>, thus showing that the increased sub. tiki not drive members away. Spiritual.-HYwur executive have again to compliment members on the manner in 'which they have attended to their various religious duties during the year. Intellectual.—The reading room was well patronised, and has proved a splendid addition to the Club. We strongly urge the iueotmjug committee to procure a few of the best miugusdnes and |hapers for (he winter months. So far we regret to state it hus been impossible to do anything in the way of forming a debating class. Members, generally, do not take kindly to 'this ionn of recreation. Social.—During the winter various social evenings were held, includin.» card lnntchns with the girls and the Waitohi library, and a lecture on Canada Ivy the Rev. Father Fay drew a crowded house. A dance was held' in connection with the football branch, which was a igreat success, th-iiiuh there was a small loss, financ ally, owing to the expensive supper that was provided. Shooting'.—A shooting gallery was erected at the back of the club rooms, and proved a big attraction. A series of matches'lasting over four months took place, for a gold medal presented by the president, and Mr R. Gillespie proved the winner. Bicycle (Race.—Towards the end of the season a road race- was promoted >jy the football branch. ■'J here were 23 starters, and a firstclass race was the result. The winners were : O'Donoghue 1, Tozcr 2, and Gillespie 3. A donation of 1 guinea was received from iiev. Father Fay. Football.—Football was again the leading sport. Our Club finished tkird in the junior competition,, nnd had hard luck in not winning the tournament -medals , a t Waimate. The third grade were not so successful as last year, but nevertheless they proved they were a team to be reckoned with. The fo o tball club lost several good players early in the season, notably, P. Kane and P. Gillespie, and they also lost the services of Mr (ins Spillane as coach. This all helped to keep the teams weak, but now that we have some of the-^old-'players back and some new blood we hope to si.e the wearers of the 'green and white come out on top this year. Departing Members.—We regret to have to report the loss of several valued member t during; the year, including our spiritual director (Father Le Flocfo), Mr Ralph Wareing (senior vice-presi-dent), junior-vice-president, and Mr P. ( a member of the executive). It is needless to say anything in regard to the loss the club has sustained through the departure of Father Lc Floch, as members are well aware of the interest he took in all matters in connection with the club, especially 'ootball. The late J. McAuliffe.—lt is

with feelings of the deepest sorrow we have to report the tragic death of one of our oldest and most valued members, Mr John McAuliffe- The late Mr i\.k-Auliffe was a tower of strength to the club in its struggling days, and /inly those who were in close touch with club affairs two or three years lay-o can estimate the loss we have sustained.. In conclusion we wish to t'haiik members for the enthusiastic maimer in which they have supported the club during the past season, hope they will continue to do ail; 11 in 'their power to promote the welfare and progress of tire club.—E. B. Gillespie, president ; J. Tangney, secretary.
