ADDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET

CHRISTCHURCH, May 26. j .Sheep.—The store shoep were mostly I of a useful class. Included in the I yarding were several lines of Chatham island sheep. The better classes of ewes and hoggets were in rather^ better demand, four and six-tooth ewes making up to 16/1, failing-mouth. 10/to 11/(5, half bred wether* hoggets 7/1, three-quarterbred hoggets (mixed sexes) to 11/4, iorward wethers 12/-, others 9/- to 11/-. The entry of fat lambs was not quite so large as last week; and the quality was on the whole good. Exporters were operating freely, and prices for togs were lirmer. General run of prices was 11/(5 to 14/- T heavy weights 13/1- to 15/-, and light sorts 10/- to 11/1. In fat sheep tho bulk of the ewes and wethers were iu good demand for export, and tho bet-i ter class of fat ewes showed an ads vanee. Tho range of prices was— Prime wethers 14/0 to 17/6, extra to 19/-, lighter 12/1 to 14/-, primo owed 12/- to 1-1/-, extra to 15/4, mediut* 9/6 to 11/6, aged and light 6/3 to 9/-, and merino wethers 8/2 to 11/6. Cattle.—l 93 head of fat cattle were penned, and the shorter, supply resulted in brisker competition, and values advanced about 1/- per 1001 b, prime quality realising 18/6 to 20/-, medium 10/- to IS/-, and cow and inferior 14/- to 15/6 per 100 lb. Steers sold at .£7 to £lO, heifers £5 to £B, cows £5 to £6 7/6, calves from 4/6 to £2 10/-. In store cattle, fifteen to eighteen months sorts made 3S/6, twoyear steers £2 14/-, two-year heifers £2 7/6, three-year heifers £3 17/6, dry cows 20/- to £4 7/6, dairy cows £3 10/- to £9 17/0. Pigs.—Prices for fats were weaker", and for stores there -was only a fair demand. Choppers sold up to £l, heavy baconers SS/- to 64/-, lighter 50/- to 57/-, heavy porkers 34/- to 40/-, lighter 28/. to 33/-, largo stores to 3(5 /-, smaller 25/- to 30/-, and weaners 8/- to 14/9.

RURNSIDE STOCK MARKET. DUNEDIN, May 2(5. Cattle.—2So were yarded, a fair proportion being- of really good quality. The supply was in excess of requirements, and (he sale opened about 5/pcr head lower than last week's rates. Towards the end there was a further drop, and sales wore hard to elTect. Best bullocks £8 .10/- to £lO 12/0, extra XII 5/- to Cl 3 (}/-, medium £7 to £7 JO/-, light £5 to £<s, best heifers to £5 15/-, extra to £7 10/-, medium to £1 10/-. Sheep.—2y92 wqre yarded, of choice quality. A good number of unfinished sorts were yarded, but this -Class bcunsuitable for show week, prices declined about 2/- per head ; for others good prices were obtained. Best wethers 18/- to 18/0, extra up to £2, medium 15/- to 10/0, inferior up to M/-, best ewes 15/3, medium 12/(5. Lambs. —t20l(» were yardod. SKIN AND WOOL SALE. Guinness and LeCren, Ltd., report that the usual fortnightly skin sale was held in Timaru on Wednesday, the 25th inst. There was an unusually large attendance of buyers, owing to the quantity of wool being ouVrod, and prices showed a decided increase on ruling rates.
