SOUTH CANTERBURY HUNT CLUB.
[ MEET at WAINUI, WINCHESTER. ! A very large number of devotees of the sport were present at Wainui, Mr A. L. Barker's residence, near Winchester, on Monday, when the annual meet of the hounds took place there. The dav was too warm and summerlike to admit of scent lying well, but on the other hand, from a spectacular point of view, the weather conditions were perfect. The attendance must have been a record one for the fixture, a
Held of fully 70 well-mounted ridars being present, and the spectators also were numerous. In the morning a cast was made in the large paddock oppose the house, and a hare was put up immediately, affording a good run for a few minutes, bringing the field almost back to the starting point. In this little i;un. the spectators had a capital view of hounds hi lull cry along a ifrass road leading .to the homestead, the hare making good his escape in some paddocks at the back of the house. Another very fast spin took place before lunch, a kill resulting. In the afternoon, at the close of the day. a firet-class run took place in the settlements on the west of the railway line, the tricky fenles being the cause of many an empty saddle, iiiid when the hare was finally run into the field, the field was down to ten, jjmong whom was a ' straight going Jadv rider.
