COUNTRY v. TOWN BANKS. TheKreturn match between the above teams was played at Temuka on Stt I Patrick's Day, the town team-some-what unexpectedly-winning by a good margin, J. Lynch, for the Town played ' a great defensive game and with the exception of a chance behind the stumps, gave a clean display. Mackenzie and Tempter scored their runs bv judicious hitting, the carpet drives and late cuts of the latter beino- particularly fine. The distinguishin7r feature of the Country Banks play was their bad fielding ;, their bowling also, was not up to its usual standard. Peacocke was their onlybatsman who played with any confidence. Besides those from Temuka, a large number of spectators from both Timaru and Geraldine were present, and their frequent applause was criterion of the keenness with which the match was contested. Special men* tion must be made of the kindness of Mrs Buxton, ivho. with the atsistance of the wives of the Temuka players, provided afternoon tea for a numerous party. The country team were the guests of the town team 'at luncheon at the Royal Hotel. The scores are detailed below. The result now leaves honours easy, both sides Inning won two matches.
