Recently a party of Standard 7 1, pupils from the Temuka District High School, with four teachers, journeyed oy way of Plcasawb Point to tin; Opihi Gorge, and spent a really good time , there. The day was rather wai'm and windy, otherwise everything was as it .shodM bo for a picnic. The 'billy was 'boiled in one of Mrs Gould's paddocks, ami all sat down to a lirslrale spread. Some, of the teachers got a box of Mrs Gould's cherries, and those were much enjoyed, especially by the boys. After lunch the party-pene-trated the gorge for a distance of about a mile. On the way the children amused themselves by paddling iu the water, gathering ferns, studying the nature of the trees, etc., returning about ;i.:3() p.m. to the camping gro'.ind and partaking of tea. After tea Mrs Gould's homestead was visited, and she very kindly invited the picnickers into the garden to sample the fruit. Mrs Gould has an orchard of line old old fruit trees, the cherry and walnut trees Jbeinj;'-' especially line. The crop of cherries was a sight to be remembered. On leaving to return to Temuka, about 5 p.m., hearty cheers were given for Mrs Gould. Home was reached about S p.m., and thanks to the coiTsideratcness of Mr Gunnion in providing a comfortable conveyance the children felt no inconvenience from their long drive, Other outings of a similar nature are contemplated,
