CONCERT AT WOODBURY.

A most successful concert in aid of the Cricket Club took place at the Woodbury schoolroom on Friday evening-. The programme was arranged by Mrs Burdon, and was much appreciated by a house packed until there w a s not oven standing room for those who l were at. all late. One of the most popular items was a short play entitled,'''A Narrow 'Escape," in which Mrs Burdon, as a learned M.A., and Miss Tinder, as a pretty student, anted fextrcmcly well. Mrs Bunion's songs accompanied by Miss Onslow on the banjo, were also very popular, especially the "'Logic of Buchan." Miss Tinder sang "Pansy Faces" very nicely, and received an encore, as did Lavie, for her charming sons' " The Merry Month of May." Miss Eva Hammond has a beautiful contralto voice, and her songs delighted everyone, and wore deservedly encored. Mr C. 11. Crowe's comic songs were among the hits of the evening. After his second appearance he was recalled "three times, the audience being) determined to hoar him again. The children's musical drill with dumb-bells was one of the best items of, the evening. Four little girls, Misses I). Hammond, J. Shaw, N. Squire, and A. Riches, prettily dressed in blue and white, and four boys, Masters Pilkingtou (2), A. Scott and W. Keen, went through many exercises with dumbbells, without a fault, and in time to music, played on the piano by Miss Hoskrag". Their perfect performance of the drill reflected great credit on their instructor. Mr Pilkmgton. Five boys, Masters Pilkingt o n, J. Wooding, L. Fifield, R. Fificld. and F. Fifikl, ■who had learnt ''Willow the King" and ''The Island," sang very well under the tuition of Mrs Burdon, were loudly encored for both, ns was Mr A. Hammond for his song, "I's trying to forget you." At the- conclusion of the concert, Mr F. Flatman, jtm., thanked the performers on behalf of the Cricket Club. The schoolroom was decorated with Indian hangings, and the stage had been enlarged and carpeted,'both great improvements. The dance which followed the concert was kept up until a u early hour.
