SYDNEY, July 28. Favored with perfect weather the race on the Punnattn river between James St anbury and George Towns for the. championship of the world and £SOO aside, drew a great concourse of people. The course, from Ryde bridge to Senrlo's monument, a distance) of tliroe miles 330 yards, was limed with spectators, and thousands crowded the river steamers.

St anbury then woke up and gradually overhauled and passed Towns before reaching the mile post, where Towns was half a length in the rair. Approaching Cabartia point Stanbury showed signs of laboring, and it was evident th a t his right shoulder, about the weakness of which rumors had been current during the last few days, was in<r trouble. Inch by inch Towns overhauled him, and got level with the champion at Gladesvillc wharf, , where Stanbury's shoulder gave out.
