A GREYMOUTH SENSATION.

A sensation was caused in Greymouth on Tuesday' morning when it became known tßh.t Bidgood, a well known resident, had been arrested on « charge of attempting to shoot with intent. The facts of the affair were mentioned when the charge- was heard by Air W. 0. Ivonriek, S.M., yesterday. The charge as livid by the police was that the young man attempted to shoot with latent, and he was further charged with assault, the inspector of police stated that the accused had been wanting to keep company with a young lady, but she, apparently, would have nothing to do with him, and this -appears to have elicited him to bitter anger and hatred. On Monday afternoon, as the lady wnspassing tlie building on which accused was employed, ~ accompanied by a young man, he grossly instilled her by calling her all the vile names he could find. About half-past six on Alonday evening lie purchased a livc-cluvmbcred revolver and cartridges. He then proceed to where the girl lived. On the door being opened he mot a lady, at the same time pointing the revolver.
