WRESTLING. Temuka competitors showed up well in the recent wrestling events at the Duuediii Caledonian sports. The competition for 12 stone and under for Border, CorWnd Devon, and Catch-as-catch-can styles, prizes, £lO, £5 and £2 10s, ,was won by T. Ryan (Mataura), P. Brophy (Temuka) 2, E. Bale (Southland) 3. Brophy won the Boeder style. In the bout betweea Brophy and Riordan the former had an,easy win, and gained both falls in good style. Brophy, by greater experience and suderior strongth, gained the first fall in his contest with Mondy, the latter, a stranger to Dunedin gatherings, in a most creditable manner, and the second fall also, after a good struggle. In his contest with Ryan Brophy was too strong for his opponent and threw him with comparative ease. But Ryan's experience told in the contest .with Mondy, and the latter had to yield the victory. In the Cornish style E. Dale proved the victor. In this contest G. Riordan and P. Brophy wrestlod for two hours, and the struggle was a most severe one ; in fact, the keenest bout seen in Dunedin for many years. Riordan, the champion of the West Coast proved victorious after both men had suffered considerably in the ordeal. The Catch-as-catch-can style was won by T. Ryan, who won the match. • Brophy Dale and M'Laren were equal, with six points each, and the three latter wrestled in Border style for second place, the grand result being :—T. Ryan (Mataura) 9 poiats, 1 ; P. Brophy, Temuka, 2 ; E. Dale (Southland) 3; D. M'Laren 4. Wrestling Competition for all Comers—viz., Border, best three falls ; standards winning first and second falls in round, 15s. Prizes : £B, £4 and £2. And Catch-as-catch-can (Caledonian rules) ; standards gaining first and second falls in a round, 15s. rrizes : £B, £4, and £2.—or the Border style for the first round Tht>,n/ey beat R. J. Scott.J. Riordan beat T. Ryan, I'. Brophy beat E. Dale. ' : Speaking of this contest the Otago Daily Times says : In the contest between Thornley and Scott the former gained a clear fall, which must have been a surprise to the public, as Scott has been well-known as the champion for some years ; and Thornley also secured the second fall, the champion being fairly beaten. Thornley must be congratulated on gaining such a victory, as he is a young man, 23 years of age, and commenced wrestling three years ago, this being the first appearance at the Caledonian Grounds. S. Thornley, his brother, is to be congratulated on his tuition of the victor. The only men of any experience Thornley has previously mot were the Brophy brothers at Timaru and Temuka. Of the Border style the result was :—T. Thornley (Temuka 1, V. Bro-' phy (Temuka) 2, G. Riordan (West Coast) 3. Thornley, as expected, had but little difficulty in disposing of Riordan, and next met Brophy, the struggle between .the two Temuka men causing considerable excitement. \Brophy gained one .fall, and that was the only one Thornley lost in the competition. Brophy gained the first two falls in his contest with Kiordan ami. secured second place. The Catch-as-catch-can style resulted as follows :—T. Scott 1, G. Riordan 2, T. Thornley 3.
