THE ENGLISHMEN V. WAIRARAPA. GERYTOWN NORTH, Jan 20. Capital weather prevailed the whole day. The attendance was estimated at 1000. The wicket was not playing well in the morning, but improved considerably as play progressed. Contrary to expectations the local 22 made a brilliant stand, especially the tail end. Play was commenced at 11.30 a.m., and continuer! till 6.30 p m., when all were out for 205. For six wickets the Englishmen made 185. Jan. 21. The weather was beautiful today, and the wicket had improved considerably. At the -luncheon) V adjournment the Englishmen declared, their first innings closed with 7 wickets down for 405—Dawson not out 218 ; Pane not out 28. Wairarapa was defeated by an innings and 91 runs. The visitors have left for Wellington. AUCKLAND V. TARANAKI. HAWERA, Jan 23. The match between Auckland and Taranaki commenced to-day. The home team went first to the wickets and made 129. The Auckland men made 132. Taranaki in the second innings scored 190 for 5 wickets. Jan. 22. The match concluded to-day, the home team winning by 154 runs. Taranaki made 234 in their second ianings. Auckland could only make 77 in their second attempt. WELLINGTON, Jan 21. A further change has been. .made ;ii the dates, of the • English,.mricKet matches in the s,outh.
