LONDON, July 20 There arc 28,000 children attending the Government schools in the Orange River and Transvaal Colonies, including 17,200 who still reside at the concentration camps. July 21. The Times’ Johannesburg correspondent says that the great scarcity of native labor is keenly felt, and that the employment of unskilled white labor for surface work at the mines at 5s and food may possibly become permanent if the employers arc able to separate the whites and blacks. They are making efforts to prove that this is cheaper than native labor, in view of the reliability of the whites. July 22. Ten thousand troops have sailed from South Africa to Great Britain during the last week. Lieutenants R. Dumaresz and J. Hamar, of the New Zealand Mounteds, have sailed for England. ALBANY, July 21. The Britannic arrived to-day. She brought over 1000 returned troopers, chiefly men of the Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth New Zealand Contingents. WELLINGTON, July 22 The, Acting-Premier has received the following cable message from Colonel Davies, dated Albjany, Monday : “ The Britannic arrived here yesterday with 43 officers and men of the Eighth Contingent, two officers and 83 of other ranks of the Tenth Contingent. I regret to report that No. 5498 Corporal T. L. Delabrossc died on the 17th of pneumonia ; and that No. 5815 Private Mehary is seriously ill. Four others arc progressing favorably, all suffering from pneumonia ; and that the rest are well.”
