With regard to the plan, Mr Macdonald said he was strongly of opinion that the landlord of a rourry 5““ sh 7„ l ' i on '-he grmmd looi. In the case of sickness mis was a most important matter as one might knock at the door all night if the landlord slept upstairs. After some further discussion Ihe Chairman said that the Comnnttec had decided to postnoie the matter of re-building until \ho Deecember meeting, and that meanwhile minor repairs be effected. Mr Aspinall pressed for an assurance that the Committee approved of the plan submitted, but the Chairman said as it was not intended to commence building at once it was unnecessary for the Committee to do ?o yet, and they would further examine and consider it. Mr Aspinall said the owner might decide to go on with the building uu once, and the chairman said the Committee would not stand in his way, but they would not express their approval for the present. TEMUKA HOTEL. Mr Raymond, for the licensee, said the repairs and improvements stipulated by the committee had been effected, and the building was now ii good order. Mr Blyth said he had seen the work that had been done and he approved of it. ’ GERALDINE HOTEL. Mr Raymond said the case of the Geraldine Hotel had been adjourned for three months to enable a number of repairs to be effected. The owner, Mr R. Taylor, proposed to make, much more extensive alterations and improvements if the committee would further adjourn the matter until January. The outside alterations, however, would be gone on with at once. He called
R. Taylor, the owner of the hotel, wno said he was peepared to make far more improvements than asked for by the Committee, if the matter was adjouroed until January next. The chairman : Would you be prepared to build a new house ? The house needs rebuilding. You may carry out the repairs, etc., specified by the committee, but further alterations may be required next year. Mr Taylor said he was not prepared to rebuild. In reply to Mr Raymond, Mr Taylor said he proposed to rebuild a portion of and add to the present building in the way of bedrooms and sitting-rooms sufficient to meet all public requirements. At the same time he was prepared to do what the committee wished at once if the committee insisted, and carry out further improvements after January. Mr J. S. Turnbull, architect,' was called to explain a plan showing the alterations and improvements it was intended to effect. After further discussion, the chairman said the committee had decided that if the licensee puts in fire escapes and closets at once, the other matters can stand over until December. The committee hoped that the plans for a new building would be laid before the meeting then. WALLINGFORD HOTEL. Air Raymond brought the subject of the Wallingford Hotel before the committee. The alterations the committee had proposed would cost a large sum of money, and the owner, Major Hayhurst, now submitted an alternative, and what he thought they would consider a better proposal. The present lease would run out on Ist July next, and meanwhile possession could not be got without the licensee’s consent. It was proposed then to pull down the major and older portion of the building and rebuild in brick. Mr Turnbull submitted a plan showing the alterations proposed to be made. The plan might not be exactly followed, but in the main it would be. Mr Raymond said with the consent of the landlord the alterations could be commenced in January. The chairman said the committee approved of the alternative plan submitted, and in the meantime the committee expected that the minor alterations re the fire escapes would be carried out. The meeting then terminated.
