Municipal Conference.
Wellington, July 7. The Municipal Conference resolved that the power confuted upon denominations to direct as to the use of the ground, time of interment, and ferection of monuments in the portion of cemeteries set apart for such denominations, should be restricted in cases were the cemetery [is provided by and controlled by the local bodies. Motions proposed by Sydenham in regard to committees’ powers and the retirement in rotation of Councillors, were rejected, and motions regarding the temporary use of loan money and the payment of compensation for damage by an inspector were referred to a comm.tteo to report. Other proposals by Sydaenham, regarding the positions of Councillors who are elected Mayor, and the sanitation of churches, were rejected. Ollier resolutions agreed to were . —That in the event of a tie the election shall be determined by the Itetnrniug Wlicer placing the names of the two candidates in the"ballot box, and drawing out one p-.iblic.ly at the declaration of the result of the poll. That the cost of equipment and mi keep of the Fire Brigades be borne equally by the local authorities, the Fire Insurance Companies, and the Grovernment That power to let market ch »rgos bo extended from the three years fixed by the Act to seven years That the penalties provided for nuisances and other similar off uces under the t’ublio Health Act, 1900, bo amended to agree with the penalties imposed on breaches of by laws dealing with such offences under the Municipal Corporations Act, That Section "doO of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1000, bo amended to provide for the protection of the inhabitants of ruinous buildings. That the duty to provide hospitals for infected persons and contacts imposed upon local authorities by the Public Health Act, 19D0, be transferred to the Hospital Boards.
