Garden Party.

The annual garden party in connection with the Temuka Wesleyan church, was held on Thursday afternoon when Mr J Brown kindly placed his beautiful grounds of “Ashfield” at the disposal of the committee. The grounds looked very pretty indeed, although not at their brightest, for as yet there are but few fl wers to replace the spring blooms which have just died. Weil kept grass, sheltered walks, a well stocked conservatory, charming fernery, vinery, orchard, winding creek, etc., etc , furnish, however, plenty of attraction to most people, and when aided to this is a kindly welcome, the use of good tenuis court, bowling green, etc., it would seem strange indeed if persons could not enjoy themselves. The attendance in the early afternoon was not large, but increased towards the hour when tea was to be dispensed. Tea and most enjoyable refreshments were served in a matquee near the croquet lawn and heartily enjoyed. The Ariwhenua brass band, who kindly gave their services for the occasion, added greatly to everyone’s enjoyment by playing a number of very pretty selection*. Mr and Mrs Brown extended a courteous welcome to ajl, and wnh members of committee endeavoured, and with succe.s, to make the party e joyable. There was a good attendance from Timarn, and when the grounds were closed at about seven o’clock Mr and Mrs Brown were warmly thanked for their kindness. Among those present was the Rev. 0. E. Beecroffc, of Auckland, but formerly of Timaru. Thoso present were very pleased to sen him. Be left for the north by the express train.
