Thomas Watt pleaded guilty to indecent assault upon =i young womi»n ou the 27th February, and was lemanded for the report of the probation oiricer. May 29. Frank Froter was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for stabbing a Maori namod f-fawea The evidence showed that as a result of a quarrel in an hotel at Te Ante, Hawea and accused went out. to light, and in a scuttle which ensued Fretcr used a knife four times, inilioting one very dangerous wound. The jury found him guiity under provocation. Wellington, May 29.

The Chief Justice gave judgment in the case Banuatyne & Co. v. Chkistchukck, May 27. At the Supreme Court, Christeluueh, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty in the charge of perjury against Robert Wilson Hood. James Ferguson, for indecent assault, was found guilty, and sentence deferred. Walter Nnrbey, for sheep stealiug, was found guilty, and seutence deferred. Philip Kiasel, for attempted rape, was found guilty and a sentence of ten years passed. The defence was insanity, but the evidence was not sufficient to prove insanity u~dcr the Act. His Houour said that the accused would be seut to gaol, and probably after a period of prison confinement lie would be sent to an asylum for the rest of his life, as his beiug at large would be a danger to the community. May 29. The indictment against Annie Hood, for perjury, was heard before Mr Justice Cooper this morning. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty without retiring. Accused is the wife of E,. AY. Hood, who was acquitted on Monday on a similar charge, arising out of a wages case at Culverdon. Dunedin, May 2S. At the Supreme Court, iu tuo case of John McCormick, charged with incest and assault at Haranden,\he jury were unable io r.greo, and were discharged. Accused will be tried agiin this session. Castor Courtney, charged with assault and robbery at Oamsri;, wae acquitted. llegiuald Edwards was found guilty of criminal assault on a child of 11 years of age, with a recommendation to mercy on account of weak intellect. His Houour paH that he would not order a flogging ou account of th" jury's recommendation, but ho imposed a sentence of four years. May I'D.
