GERALDINE COUNTY WATER RACES

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In regard to the complaint made by Mr M. 0. Orbell of shortness of water, I notice that the Geraldine County Council employed the engineer to report on the matter, which he did very profusely. What I want to know is, who pays the piper ? Will the engineer be paid by Mr Orbell, in whose interests the report was made, will he be paid by the ratepayers of the OrariWaihi Water-race district, or will the money come out of the pockets of the Geraldine County Council ratepayers ? My own opinion and the opinion of other ratepayers is that Mr Orbell ought to pay the engineer. It seems ridiculous that whenever someone does a growl about a matter of little importance the Council finds work for the engineer at the expense of the ratepayers. —I am, etc., liATiPAYER. May 29th.
