Now Vo UK, May 21. Fifty thousand machinist? in the Putted States have struck, demanding ten hours’ pay for nine hours’ work. Kmployors’ concessions prevented tho strike extending to 150,000 persons. I)i:nki>i n, May 22. The Arbitration Court to-day concluded tiie heaving of evidence in the carters’ dispute. The dispute in the butchering trade was then mentioned. Strong- exception was taken on behalf of tie- master butchers to the clause in file Wellington award which allowed 5s wer h of meat or an equivalent in wages This was the only point objected to, and the case was adjourned to permit of a meeting of the Union to con sider the mat f- r. Tho hearing of tho dispute between the United Boilermakers’ and the Iron Shipbuilder:,' Union and master ironfounders was then taken. Mr G. B. Booth said that an Employer;!' Association was being formed which would have a standing before the Court. As it was do.-iied that similar conditions should prevail in all tho centn-s, it was suggested thnl the Court should withhold their award until evidence elsewhere was heard. Mr J us. ice iToper thought it possible that they would not make an award in too Christchurch dispute, which had heeu heard, until hearing the dispute in Auckland. May 23. At the Arbitration Court, in tho plasterers’ case, (ho minimum wage was fixed at 1? th! per hour. Contracts entered into prior to November and still in force were exempted. On the application of Mr Arnold, M.H.R., the Court consented to withhold the award in tho Christchurch, moulders’ dispute until similar disputes had been heard in Dunedin, Auckland, and Wellington.

The Court will sit to-morrow and on Saturday. The president goes to Christchurch to complete the criminal sittings of the Supremo Court, after which he will return and tho Court will resume. References iu two fresh cases were filed —tho sailmakers and timber yard hands and sav,'millers.
