Lyttelton Regatta.
The Lyttelton Regatta commenced on New Year's Day in fine weather, though the water was too rough for the outrigger events. Twenty thousand people travelled to Lyttleton from Christchurch by train. Besults:—First Class Yacht Race—Rainbow, Auckland, 1 : Waitangi, Wellington, 2; Yvonne, Lyttelton, 3. The Rainbow led throughout, winning easily. Handicap Yacht Race—Pleetwing, 1; Kawhai, 2 ; Beltina, 3. Maiden Double Sculls (stump outriggers)—Cure, Kaiapoi, 1; Akaroa, 2; Wellington, 3. Senior Dsuble Sculls (Stumps). Christchurch Amateur, 1; Canterbury, 2; Lyttelton, 3. Youths Double Sculls (stumps)—Christchurch Amateur, 1; Union, 2; Canterbury, 3. Ships Boat Rowing Race—Te Anau, 1 ; Tekoa, 2; Junior Double Sculls Avon, 1; Cure, 2. The Provincial Senior Four Oar Race was won by the Canterbury Club, Wellington second, Aramoho third. The Maiden Fours by Aramoho, Wellington second, Queens Drive 3. At the Swimming sports, M. E. Champion, of Wellington, won the Half Mile New Zealand Amateur Championship in 15 miuuues 17sec, beating the standard by linin. 13sec.
