Temuka Borough Council.

A special meeting of the Ternuka Borough Council was held last evening. Present— Councillors Buxton (Deputy Mayor), Carr, Henry, and Lee. The Deputy Mayor explained the calling of the meeting, which was for the purpose of fixing the weekly half-holiday for the ensuing year, as provided by the Act. Councillor Lee moved —" That Thursday in each week be the recognised half-holiday for the ensuing year.” Seconded by Councillor Carr, and carried.

Appplications were received from Messrs J. W. Miles, W. C. Eoulston, J. H. Walker, E. Kissel, and Rix & Stewart, and Miss Robertson, asking that they be allowed to close on Thursday, instead of Saturday, as required by the ‘ Factories Act.’ ” Councillor Henry moved and Councillor Carr seconded—“ That the request of the applicants for the Thursday half-holiday in lieu of Saturday, as required by the ‘ Factories Act, 1896,’ be granted,” Carried. Thie council then rose.
