Presentation.

On Friday night the employers and friends of Mr Dickson, late manager of tho New Zealand and Australian Land Company, met at the Cave Hotel to bid him farewell and present him with a token of the esteem and respect in which ho has been held during his residence in tho district. The presentation took tho form of a valuable riding saddle and bridle and a handsome whiskey llask, the flask being purchased from Messrs G. &T. Young, Timaru. Mr Wrefbrd occupied the chair, and Mr A. C. Thompson, of Albury, was vice-chairman. Mr Wreford, in a short speech, referred in kindly terms to Mr Dickson, and then proposed the first toast of “ Tho Queen/’ which was drunk with enthusiasm. Tho “ Army and Navy ” was the next toast, and was responded to by Mr Macpherson in a suitable speech. “The chairman/’ was responded to by Mr Wreford. Mr Graham then made the presentation, as the oldest emploj'ee on tho station. lie referred to the good terms always existing between Mr Dickson and his employees, and he trusted that he would live to wear out the presents given to him that night. Mr Dickson replied in a feeling speech, and said he was in tho company’s service eighteen years, being at the Cave ten years of that period. He was surprised at getting such a valuable gift, and was sorry to leave tho Ca.ve, but duty called him elsewhere. Mr Dickson resumed his seat amidst great applause. The toast list was then gone on with, the next toast being"TheAgriculturai,aud Pastoral Interest,” responded to by Messrs Shepherd, Irving, McGrath, and Thompson ; “ Trade and Commerce,” responded to by Messrs Stewart, Cochrane, and West; “New Zealand and Australian Land Company,” responded to by Messrs Dickson, Armstrong, and Warden; “ Local Hodies,” responded to by Messrs Wreford and Kelliher; “ The New Manager,” responded to by Mr Armstrong; “New Zealand Railways,” responded to by Mr Robinson; “ The Contractors,” responded to by Messrs Naughton, and Kelliher ; and “ The Shepherds,” responded to by Messrs Anderson and Rutherford; “ Sport.” reresponded to by Messrs McGrath, and Kelland. (Mr Kelland referred in lengthy terms ro coursing as being true sport); “ The Visitors,” responded to by Mr Hunter ; “The Ladies,” responded to, by Messrs Stewart and Cooper; “ The Press,” responded to by Mr Sullivan ; “ Our Host,” responded to by Mr Finch ; “ Tho Chairman and Vice-Chairman,” responded to by Messrs Wreford and Thompson. During tho evening excellent songs wore rendered by the following gentlemen :—Messrs Cochrane, Armstrong, Crowe, T. Kelliher, Stevenson, Cooper, J. Kelliher.
