Geraldine County Council.

A special meeting of the Geraldine County Council was held on Saturday. Present—Messrs J. Talbot (chairman), A. Keltnan, B. R. Macdonald, J. A. MeCaskill, and Dr Hislop. On the motion of Dr. Hislop, seconded by Mr B. R. Macdonald, it was resolved —“That this council adopt the resolution passed at its last meeting to re-adjust the loans made to the council under the ‘ Government Loans to Local Bodies Act 1886 ’ for the following water-race Districts, namely the Rangitata and Orari, Woodbury, OrariWaihi, Geraldine Flat, Waitohi Flat, and Four Peaks in accordance with, and as provided by Section IV, of sub-section I, of section 11, of the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, Amendment Act 1599, and that a meeting of the council be held at the council’s office at Geraldine at 11 o’clock in the forenoon on the 30th day of January 1900 to confirm this resolution, and that such re-adjust-ment shall taka effect on the Ist day of February 1900.” The engineers reported making on inspection of the Opuha Gorge Bridge, aud aud that they found parts of the bridge so decayed as to require renewal. As the bridge stood it was quite safe for a 2 ton load, but public notice should he given .that the bridge was unsafe for any weight TbveFtWlpad mentioned. The ford across the river sliould-Lc immediately opened to accommodate heavy traffic. It would be necessary to entirely rebuild the bridge, and the timber should have special antiseptic treatment to prevent the growth of moss, etc. Repairs could, however, he effected meanwhile to strengthen the bridge.—The engineer to carry out the repairs recommended by him, and to put up the necessary notice hoards ro weight the bridge is safe to carry, and that the clerk advertise the same.

It was resolved that the nest meeting of the council be held on Thursday, January 30f.h, 1900. The meeting then terminated.
