Timaru Presbytery.
A meeting of the Timaru Presbyteiy was held in the vestry of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Timaru, on Tuesday. Present—The Rev. Messrs Mackie (Moderator), A, B. Todd (clerk), W. Gillies, A. S. Morrison, J. White, and Messrs J. Lane, 11. McGowan, D. Shaw, junr., A. H. McLean, .1. Elder, and D. Martin. The Moderator reported that a session had been formed at St. Andrews, consisting of three members, Messrs J. Campbell, James Young, and D, Martin. The Presbytery expressed satisfaction at the formation of the se-sion, and recorded its thinks to the assessors for having acted in the meantimo. Mr Martin was present as representative of the siun for the current 12 mouths. Mr Gillies thauked the Presbytery for leave of j absence in order to carry on the work iu I c unectioii with the new Century V'lud, i au . gave an account of his labours. Messrs | Diok.-oa and White moved, and \:, was 1 carrel, that the Presbyterj is pleased to learn that the expectations in regard to I the appointment of Mr Gillie:; have been' [realised, and congratulate hiui on the succsa of his labours. The Moderator of Mackenzie County reported that steps wove being taken to fill the vacancy iu that charge. A committee consisting of tho Moderator the Rev. A. B. Todd and Mr Elder, were appointod to consider and sanction plans for the new church at Teuiuka. Plans for a church at St. Andrews were siibajitto.i and discussed. A committee was appointed to examine them, the Moderator, Rev. Messrs Gillies and Morrison, and Mr Lane to act thereon. The Rev. Mr Dickson (Temuka) applied for nine months' leave of absence. On the motion of Mr Gillies leave was granted, Mr Todd tq be Moderator of his district during Mr Dicksou's absence, the Moderator and dark to attend to the pulpit supply. Mr Whito reported that he had received a letter informing him that Dr Bowe, a returned missionary would be available for South Canterbury, and asking that arrangements be made for his visit. Mr White is to obtain further particulars, The assessments for Aged and Infirm Ministers Fund, and presbyterial expenses were discussed. The Rev. Mr Morrison reported on the Sabbath sohool examinations. There had been a very fair representation of the Presbytery's schools. He urged members to stir up all the interest they could in this matter. Consideration of the remit on the calling and election of ministers and officebearers was then taken. The Presbytery Bat in committee on religion and morals. In the afternoon the Moderator and members of the Presbytery journeyed to St. Andrews to make tho triennial visitation. They met the office-bearers of the Presbyterian Church there at 3.45 p.m., and the congregation in the evening.
