New York, July 30. Another tram car was dynamited in Cleveland. An ex-convict was arrested with 751 b of dynamite in his possession. He is believed to bo the chief conspirator in a plot to destroy the tramway company’s power-house. July 31. The Cleveland tram strikers have compelled manufacturers and shopkeepers to rigidly boycott all who ride on cars employing non-union labour. Christchurch, Aug. 1. The recommendations of the Conciliation Board in the dispute in the building trade include the following ;—The minimum wage for competent workman to be Is 3d per hour ; the proportion of inferior workmen to bo not more than 1 to 3 competent men or fraction thereof. Forty-four hours are to constitute a week’s work. All time worked beyond eight hours and on holidays (specified) is to be paid for at time and a quarter for first four hours ; walking time to bo paid for by the employer ; the men to be conveyed to country Jobs or travelling expenses paid; employers to find tents or accommodation on country Jobs if necessary. Preference to be given unionists. Wages to bo paid weekly in cash, and waiting time to be paid for; this condition to apply whore two men or less are employed on any Job. No Joint insurance policy to be entered into. The proportion of apprentices to be one to every three Journeymen ; apprentices to be indentured for five years. The recommendations to apply to the Christchurch Meat Company, Canterbury Frozen -Meat Company, and Messrs Bowron Bros, provided they employ carpenters for the erection of buildings or on work coming into competition with the building trade. The industrial agreement to remain in force until August Ist, 1901.
