McGregor has introduced a Bill, which, if carried, will save the country a considerable amount annually, It provides that it shall be unnecessary to send to the Supreme Court for trial prisoners who plead guilty in the Magistrate's Court to charges of indictable offences. It proposes that a Magistrate should have power either to pass a sentence or send the prisoner to the Supreme Court merely for sentence and not for trial.
