Melbourne, Jan. 25, At the inquest on the body of Miss Ambrose the evidence called established an illicit relationship between the deceased and Todd. The girl Dubberke (who gave the information to the police which led to the identification of the body and the arrest of the principals), supplemented her previous statement by stating that Madame Radatskye frequently treated Ambrose with an elecric battery to procure miscarriage, but the treatment failed. The night before her death she procured a certain herb, and told Ambrose that she intended next morning to take stronger measures. Dr Gage was called in shortly after death. He said he did not wish his name to be mixed up in the case. Be was subsequently informed of the method of disposal of the body and expressed the opinion that it would float. The inquest was adjourned till Monday. Jan. 20. The girl Dubberke stated that wheu she heard Ambrose scream, she rau upstairs, and said to Madame Radatskye “What have you done?” She replied, “ I have killed the girl, and will be hanged.” Dubberke suggested that oue of deceased’s teeth be knocked down her throat to prevent indentification. Asked if she stamped the body iuto the box, witness said she helped Madame Radatskye to push it down. Brisbane, Jan. 26. The charge of theft against Burgess has been withdrawn and vagrancy substituted. Counsel for prisoner considered that there was uo evidence against Burgess. The police asked for a conviction, alleging that it would be better for the prisoner to be removed from the district, whore he inspired terror amongst women. He was sentenced to two months. Notice of appeal was given. Subsequently Burgess communicated to the police through his solicitor his movements ou the Christmas holidays.
