SUPREME COURT,
Auckland, March 16. Henry Hayson, aged 27, who was acquitted of arson on the ground of insanity, was sent to the asylum pending the Colonial Secretary’s pleasure. He had been in the asylum ten years ago. On the charge of murder of her illegitimate infant against Mary Ramsbotttom, the jury returned a verdict of manslaughter, and prisoner was sentenced to two years’ hard labor. Albert Edward Frost, a lad, charged with the theft of large sums of money from an Austrian gum-digger, got 18 months’ hard labor. The judge said that if the boy confessed where the stolen money was, he would aid in getting a remission of the sentence. Wellington, March 16. The Healeys, charged with cruelty to a boy, were fined £v!s each, with three months to pay it in.
