THE DEAN CASE.

Sydney, Oct. 17. It ia rumored that further sensational arrests are likely to be made in connection with the Dean case. The four prisoners in the Dean case were remanded for one week. Dean asked to be allowed to speak to Mr Levin, solicitor, and told him that he wished to withdraw all acknowledgment of his guilt. He asked Mr Levin to defend him. The latter replied that it waß impossible under the present circumstances. Dean asked liim to name some solicitor who would. At Dean's request the police communicated with his friends, with the result that Messrs Garrick and Close, solicitors, were engaged for the defence. After interviewing the prisoner, Mr Garrick stated that he had come to the conclusion that owing to worry and excitement Dean had been in sueh an extraordinary mind lately that it was his duty to withdraw the plea of guilty to the charge of perjury.
