THE OTAGO WINTER SHOW.
Dunedin, June 5, The winter show was opened in the Garrison Hall this afternoon by the Mayor. There are 475 entries, a large increase on last year. The Nairn Cup for cheese for export was awarded to the Edendale Dairy Factory, with Wyndham second. The weather is magnificent, and large numbers of country visitors are attending the show. Thers is a fine display of both cheese and butter and keen competition. There are large exhibits of roots, seeds, hams, bacon, etc. For Nimmo & Blair’s challenge cup for the best cwt. of factory made butter, J. & R. Cuddie are first, with Shennan & Thomson second, and Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supply Co. third. There is keen competition in the farmers’ classes. In bacon the judge stated that the sides are the best he has ever seen. In seeds there is close competition. Short lectures were given by Messrs Mac Ewan, Government dairy expert, Gilruth, and Murphy, secretary of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, who read a paper by Mr Gray on ferments.
