AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT,

The Canterbury Fanners Cooperative Association Limited, per J. Mundell, Auctioneer, reports on the Live Stock Market for the fortnight ending Friday, November 18th, 1892, as follows :

Feed in abundance in all pastures has produced an active demand for all kinds of young stock. Especially in sheep and cattle is this noticeable ; in fact, the supply is so far short of the demand that prices must improve considerably in the near future. At the Temuka Yards on Tuesday a moderate yarding of stock was submitted to auction. All lots on which moderate reserves Avere placed sold readily at the following quotations ; Sheep—Crossbred ewes (shorn) 11s, lls 3d, to 11s Gd, merino Avethers do in fonvard condition Ss 9d. Cattle —Fat cows £4 10s, £4 1 os, to Go ; fat steers and heifers £d 10s to £G os : cows (forward stores) £3 Ids, £4, to £4 10s ; dry cows, £3 10s to £4: 2-year-old steers and heifers, £3 to £3 10s : yearlings, £2 to £2 Ids ; coavs in profit and springing, £d 2s Gd, £d 10s, to £o Ids 9d.

Sheepskins, &e.—At our rooms, Timaru, on Wednesday, we submitted a moderate catalogue pf butchers’ and fanners.’ crossbred and merino skins, to a good attendance of the trade. There was keen competition, but as usual at this season of the year, some of our leading buyers drop out of the skin trade and prepare for (he wool sales. Their absence caused u -light drop hi

prices. Our quotations are for butchers’ crossbreds, os 3d, 5s Gd. os 9d, to 5s IDs ; merinos, 3s 3d, 3s Gd, to 3s 9d ; farmers’ crossbreds, 4s, 4s 3d, 4s 9d, to 4s lid : merinos, 2s Gd, 2s 9d, 3s, to 3s 3d ; bag wool, to Gd per lb. The prospects for the coming wool sales are, so far, satisfactory, and full values will be realised at the local sales, providing growers get up their clips so that the contents of each bale will prove on inspection true to the description given on the catalogue.
