TEMUKA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY,
The first inglesido of the season, which Was held in the Volunteer Ha}l, Temnka, fast Thursday evening, was a great success. Notwithstanding counter attractions there was a very good attendance, and all enjoyed themselves to their hearts’ content. Indeed it was one of the most enjoyable evenings spent in Temuka for a long time, a fact which was, in a great V-.measure, due to the excellent arrangement made by the officers of the society. The hall was splendidly decorated by Mr Gunn ion. The catering was under tip ce "of TSfrt McOaisipll, the music was’ supplied by Messrs McCarthy (violin), and Leveus (piano,) and Mr Bisset agted as M.C. It is needless to say fhat ev pry department was therefore attended to in’ a thoroughly satisfactory manner. Mr Mabiu, the society’s piper, opened the social with a selection on the bagpipes, played iu grand style, and a 1 K i xi.. r> ;j x n,r_ a iur mai’cji xouoweu, me uvaiuoui, x.xx a. x.x. Clark ffiadino- off with Mrs Rutherford; Mr A.’Ei Clark,’and Mr John Lawson with Mrs V E. G. Rlmfies- Aff excellent prqg*vmme of dancing, sopgs, recitations hud musical selections was gone throughA violin solo with piano accompaniment by Miss Quinn was given iu his usually finished style by Mr McCarthy ; song by Mr J. McCaskill; recitation by Air Twomey ; duet by Messrs Low aud Cooper; comic song, Mt eOt! piano duet by Mrs QJai'V an fi Alias Eatorgoh, and piano solo by Air Clark, both of Which were splendidly executed and loudly applauded. At the close of the entertaini/jont Mr A. M. Clark, president of the ’society, ascended the stage aud said he felt highly gratified by seeing so many present, and all thoroughly enjoying th©mfiefves. It showed the people had not jost interest in the society. Ho was also very glad to see the patron of the society, Mr A. E. Rhodes, and his bride present. (Great applause). It was the first octnmon on which they had had that pleasure, hut ho hoped they would have them present af their future meetings. Air Rhodes, who was received with applause, X said he felt great pleasure iu being present, and on behalf of his wife and hirn{|clf he thanked them most sincerely for
their kindly reception. He did not expect that they could be with them always, but he would assure them they would come as often as they could. (Applause). The proceedings wound up about one, o’clock by all Joining in “ Auld Lang Syne.”
