BRITISH OCCUPATION OF LESBOS.

A force of British soldiers has been landed ori the Island of Lesbos, in the northern HSgean, and taken possession of the place. The occupation of Mitylene (Lesbos) by the British has affected the Paris and Frankfort bourses].

The Times considers the occupation of Sigri by the British preposterous, and that it is simply a bourse trick, either to create a fall in Turkish securities; or prevent the issue of a Russian loan.. Both the Foreign Office and the Admiralty deny the hostile occupation of Sign, but consider it possible that, with the permission of the Porte; British seamen have landed there for recreation or gun practice. Constantinople, Sept. 14. It is reported here that a British „irpnclad has landed a detachment at Sigri. ' The stock exchanges and bourses are weak in consequence. f Athens, Sept. 14., , The Greek Consuls, at Mitylene arid Syirima aririounce that on Friday last thirteen ships landed troops and guns at Sigri, situated on the western side of the island of Lesbos, and having hoisted the British flag began to fortify the place. The Russian and French Consuls confirm the occupation, and report that a small isle off Sigri was afterwards occupied aud surrounded by torpedoes. Cairo, Sept. 14. The seizure of Sigri lias occasioned immense sensation.
