S.C. HUNT CLUB STEEPLECHASES.

Hunt Club tool place "on Mr Squire's farm, Wai-it: road, Timaru, on Thursday last, anc was particnhrlv well attended and successful. Visitors were present from al. parts of the district. The office-bearers all attended punctually to their duties : and gave every satisfaction. Messrs Mason and Roberts had a totalisator or. the ground, and during the day £63S were passed through the machine. The following are the results : Maiden Steeplechase, of 15 sovs; weight for age; for horses that have never won an advertised hurdle race or steeplechase, the property oi members of any hunt club; master of hounds, certificate for 1891 to be produced at scales; about 2 miles.. Park's b m Za3o, syrs, list 101 b (Shephard)- 3 Blasus .and Nap also started. In this race no money was invested on the winner, and the totalisator money was returned to investors, less 10 per cent. Hunt Club Cup, a handicap steeplechase of 35 sovs; the second horse to receive 5 sovs from the stakes; open to all hunters; certificate of master of hounds for 1891 to be produced at scales; about 2£ miles. Handicap Steeplechase, of 10 sovs; confined to horses that have regularly hunted with the South Canterbury Harriers; master of hounds' certificate for 1891 to be produced at • . scales; about 3 miles. Mr Gordon P. Wood's ch g Juggler, aged, 12st 91b... ... (Owner) 1 Mr Shaw's ch g Pastime, aged, 12st (Owner) 2. Mr Squire's b m Doric, 6yrs, lOst (H. Jackson) 3 Nap and Zeo also started. Zeo came in first, but waa disqualified for crossing Juggler. Totalisator £2. Open Handicap Steeplechase, of 55 sovs, the second horse to receive 5 sovs from the stakes ; about 2J miles. Mr W. G. Smith's g g Joker, 6yrs, lOst (Butterworth) 1 Mr Woodman's g g Mexico, aged, 12st (Mr Cox) 2 Mr Claridge's b m Lyndoora, aged, 12st71b ... ... (Owner) 3 Nero and The Chief also started. Ladies' Bracelet, of 10 sovs; for qualified hunters only; horses must be nominated by ladies, and master of hounds' certificate for 1891 be produced at scales; about 2 miles. Miss Clarkson's b g Glen, aged, 12st 21b (Mr Aynsley) 1 Miss Frankish's b g Bob, 6yrs, lOst 91b (Butserworth) 2 Mrs G. P. Wood's ch g Juggler, aged, list 91b (K.Dunn) 3 Stanley, The Monk, Shingle, and Blasus also started. In this event two accidents' happened. Cornelius, the rider of Stanley, was thrown, and a boy was knocked down by Juggler at the finish. Neither were seriously hurt. Totalisator—£ls4; dividend, £2.
