TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above board was held last Evening, Present— Messrs J. Blyth (chairman), Coira, Clinch, Mason, and Storey. FXEE BBIGAdE. Captain Henry and Lieut. McSheeby Gentleman ( waited on the board as a deputation from the fire brigade to represent the necessity of another 400 feet of hose being purchased for the purposes of the brigade, also another bell to be placed in a more central position in the town. The prices were discussed at some length, and the chairman said the request ought to be complied with as the brigade ought to be encouraged.—Captain Henry said that the wells required looking after as some of them were dry, especially Railway Terrace well.—-Mr Storey thought it was due to the dry weather. After some further discussion, Mr Storey moved “ That the fire-brigade be authorised to purchase 600 feet of hose.” Mr Clinch seconded the motion, and it was carried unanimously. The deputation then retired. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read— From Mr Dignan, asking the board to place the name of Agnes Taylor on the rate roll in lieu of the Bank of New Zealand.—Agreed to. From the Land Office, enclosing tracings of reserve 168. From Mr J. E. Fitzgerald, returning the audited balance-sheet of the board. —The balance-sheet was then read, and showed the total receipts were £656 6s Id, and the expenditure £675 12s 9d. leaving a balance to credit of £BO 13s 7d. The balance-sheet was adopted. From Mr Rhodes’s trustees, asking on what authority the board asked them to fence their land in Temuka. —On the motion of Mr Storey, it was resolved to supply Mr Rhodes’s trustees with reasons for making the demand. From Mr Chatteris Complaining of Mr Sweet discharging fire-arms on his section. —lt was decided to refer Mr Charferis to the police. From Messrs Clinch and Lloyd asking for permission to put a water-pipe out to the side channel. VALUATION. Mr Mason said Mr E. Brown complained of the valuation of his new shop as being excessive. The valuation was more than what it cost him. It was suggested that Mr Brown should make a proper complaint, Mr Storey brought forward the question of asphalting. It was time to consider the question. After some discussion it was resolved to asphalt Railway Terrace, and from Wood street to Godley street, and also from the Post Office to the Volunteer Hall, and tenders were ordered to be called for the same. overseer’s report. The overseer’s report was read to the effect that several works ordered had been done, and that the drain from the Wallingford Hotel and several other matters were dealt with. . . The clerk was instructed to superintend the drain from the Wallingford. It was resolved to get another 20 loads of phingle carted. , ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £44 6s 7d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
