PRESBYTERY MEETING.

The quarterly meeting of the South Canterbury Presbytery was" held in; Tixnaru at 11 a.m. on Monday, last, -when there were presexxt Hie Revs. J. McKee (Moderator), W. Gillies, J. Clarke, and A. B. Todd. The Rev. Mr Watters, at present supplying Temuka, was associated. RESIGNATION.

The Rev. W. Gillies having resigned .at a previous meeting the office of clerk, a motion was passed as follows :—“ The Presbytery in accepting the resignation of Mr Gillies as clerk do so Avith great regret. They desire also to place on record their high appreciation of the many valuable services which he has rendered to the Presbytery and to the cause of Presbyterianism in South Canterbury during the long period of 16 years. Specially they recognise tho great help, given to the Presbytery through his intimate acquaintance with the Ecclesiastical hw and forms of procedure, by means of Avhich his wisdom and experience were of great service in guiding the Presbytery in their deliberations. His duties Avere always discharged with unfailing courtes, readiness, punctuality, and regularity, both in public and- private. Mr Gillies AA r as always a great help to the brethren Avith Avords of kindly counsel. The Presbytery’s earnest prayer is that he may be long spared among them to continue the good work which OAves so much of its success to his abilities. OTAXO.

A report was read from Otaio of a very satisfactory nature, .and a motion was passed thanking Mr Campbell for the work he had done in conducting the services there for several months. An interim session was appointed for I Otaio, consisting of Messrs Campbell and Tully. PLEASANT POINT. A call was placed on the table from Pleasant Point in favor of the Rev. J. M. Simpson, and also a letter from Mr Simpson, which stated that he had accepted a call to Sydenham. The Presbytery did nothing in the matter but report to Pleasant Point. EAIIILIE CHEEK, ETC. The Rev. Mr Clarke reported that a session had ben formed at Fairlie Creek, and the Presbytery adjourned, to meet on the second Tuesday in October at Geraldine to hold a conference in the afternoon and a meeting of the Presbytery in the evening.
