ACCIDENTS, FATALITIES, ETC.
Avckl&itd, June 16. Mark Hassan, an old resident, was found dying in the street at 4 a,m. He was taken into the Fire Brigp'^ e station, and died before a doctor arrived. He was a single maa, and had no relatives in the colonj. He was a Jew, and a bootmaker by trader Thames, June 15. A married woman named Ellen Dayies dropped dead yesterday morning while preparing breakfast. The cause of death was apoplexy. The same evening a billiard marker named Alfred Clark, who waa subject tq epileptic fits, fell into an open drain [ and was suffocated before he was discovered, being then quite dead. At 3 o'clock this morning a fire completely destroyed a dwelling house general store, and butcher's shop of a' tradesman named Deeble t The loea ia estimated at £ISOO oyer insurance.
HOKITIKA, JUHB 15. A Chinese miner, Ah Ken, was killed in his'claim at Ballarat Hill, Stafford, this morning. A fall of earth struck and knocked him into a tail race, breaking his neck and one leg. Chbistohubch, June 15. Mrs Hi.bell, wife of; Mr Frank Hibell, insurance surveyor, died suddenly last night while going about her housework. She was 42 yeari old. The cause of death is supposed to be heart disease. At Kaipara, during squally weather at sea, John Humphreys, an able sea-man,-fell from aloft. A buoy was thrown to him but he failed to reach it, and he went down. He was a native of Kent, aged twenty-four.
