MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this board was held" In the hoard’s office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 17th inst. The members present were the Hon J. B. A. Acland (chairman), Messrs A. Tbew, and G.J, Dennistoun. A telegram was received from Mr Mackay stating that he was unable to attend the meeting. 9BNDSBS. Tenders for contract No, 20, forming the road to section 36096 were opened, Timothy Sugrue, JE6o;Maiirice Lawlor, £32. —The tender of M. Lawlor was accepted. COEEEBPONDENOE. The following correspondence wss read and dealt with ; From the Treasury, intimating that the sum of £93 15s had been remitted to the board’s credit in payment of subsidy on rates collected for the year ending Slat March, 1891. From the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, in reference to admittance of patients to the hospital, stating a written order ’ signed by the 1 chairman of a Road or Town Board, and countersigned by the chairman or secretary of the 'Hospital”' Board, would obtain advice or admission to the hospital,— The clerk was directed to reply, " That the residence of the present chairman of the board is in the corner of the district ! most remote from Timaru, and the board would therefore request that the signature of any. member of the hoard should be accepted.” From the Geraldine County Council, giving the estimates of the Hospita and Charitable Aid Board for the current year, and requesting the payment of £6B Us lOd being the board’s share of the contribution for the halfyear ending 30th September. J From the Geraldine County Council, intimating that the amount required to he contributed by the board for the payment of interest on the Timaru Harbor Board loan is £199 Is sd, and requesting that half that amount be paid to the Timaru Harbor Board prior to the Ist June next. From the Geraldine County Council, enclosing cheque for £93 15b, being the council’s share of subsidy on rates collected by' ttiiefbbard. From the Temuka Road Board, approving of the action taken by the Mount Peel Road Boadin reference to the Orari Bridge, and expressing the opinion that the rivers on the main line of road through, the country should be kept bridged suitable for wheel traffic. From- the Geraldine Road Board, in reference to the Orari Traffic Bridge, and suggesting that a deputation should be appointed to wait upon the council at its next meeting.—Resolved, “ That the chairman and Mr C. G. Tripp be appointed to attend as a deputation at the next meeting bf the Geraldine County Council.” From Mr J. Mundellj in reference to the same matter, and stating that the closing of the bridge would be a retrograde step, and against the interest of the district, and recommending the Road Boards to take united action in inducing the County Council to keep the bridge .open for traffic.— The clerk to inform MrMundell ofth© action taken by the board in the matter. From the Manager, Mount Peel Station, asking if the board would sell the timber on the line of road between sections 8208 and 4035, between the main road and the Rangitata River.— The clerk was instructed to meet Mr Acland oe the ground. Mr F. , Newman, poundkeeper at Peel Forest, waited on the board and handed in £llss, proceeds of sale ol impounded stock. ’ ' miscellaneous. Resolved, " That the annual meeting of the 'ratepayers of the. district be held on Friday, the Ist May.” The clerk was directed to give notice to owners of land to clear gone off the roads. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £124 7s lid were passed for payment. The ifteefcing then terminated.
