AUCTIONEERS’REPORTS. TIMARU. Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows: — A decided improvement in business is noted. A feeling prevails that we have teen the last of the bad time. Cable news from Great Britain and the Continent mentions a great improvement in commercial matters. Such a change cannot fail to benefit producers bore as well as the large number of those who depend upon their success for a livelihood, and the prospects of farmers are looking brighter than they have been for some time.

Pleasant Point—His regular monthly sale on Monday, the 6th, was one of, the best and most successful that have been held in these yards for a very long time. The entry of both sheep' and cattle was very large; in fact, more than the yards could accommodate, and he is pleased to say nearly line of sheep entered was sold. He sold 173 2-tooth ewes at lOs.lOd, 126 do at 12s 3d, 13L do at 11s 6d, 78 wethers at lls 6d, 29 do at 14s, 147 lambs at 7s lid, 122 dp at 10s, 50 do at Ss 6d, 161 do at 7s 6d, 100 halfbred ewes at 10s ,7d, 100 do at 9s 6d, 94 do at 8s 6d, 277 do at lls 7d, 136 do at 5s 6d, 85 fat ewes at 10s Id, 70 do at 8s 9d, 182 freezers at 13s 6d, 800 merino ewes at 5s 6d, 126 do at 4s 6d, 4 rams at 20s, 9 yearlings at 265, 1 springer at £2 12s 6d, 8 head of cattle at £3 12s 6d, 16 steers and heifers at £4 7s 6d, 6 do at £4 10s, 5 do at £4 2s 6d, and others at equal value.

Fairlie Creek —On Tuesday, 7th met., he held his first sale at Fairlie Creek, and it was gratifying to both buyers and sellers that there was such a good entry. Washdyke Yards —On the 2nd April the annual ram and ewe fair took place. There was a good number of sheep entered, and good prices were obtained. He sold 6 rams at 2-f-gs, 3 do at 3igs, 7 do at 3£ge, 10 do at 2£gs, 10 do at 2igs, 190 fat ewes at 8s 6d, 128 do at lls6d, 1342-tooth at I2s sd, 150 halfbred ewes at 7s 4d, 94 do at 7s 3d.

bheepskins, Wool, Etc.—The regular fortnightly sale took place on Wednesday, Bth April, when the trade was well represented. He sold about 4000 sheepskins, including freezers, at the following rates: —ijambs, 6d to 3s lid; pelts, 6d to 3aj halfbreds, 2a 3d to 3s; crossbreds, 2a 6d to 3s lid; merinos, 6s to 3s Id; 1 bag black bellies, 4d; Ido do fleece, s£d ; I bale lambs’ trimmings, 4d; 1100 fseezers at 3s 6d, 212 do 3s, 720 do 3s 3d, 300 do 3s 6d. H© disposed of 144 hides at up to 2fd per lb, according to weight and quality; fat, about 2 tons, from 9a 6d to 14s.

Private Sales —Privately he has sold 1500 merino ewes (full mouth) at ss, 200 do at 3s 6d, 200 do at 4s, 120 fat sheep at 10s, 15 head of cattle at £4 10a each. He has also sold a large quantity of wheat at the following prices, and he is pleased to say values are still rising:—800 bushels fcuscan at 3s 9d, 800 do do at 3s lOd, 1500 do do at 3a 3a lOd, 1370 do do do at 3s lOd.

ENGLISH MARKETS. London, April 16. New Zealand 4 per cent; inscribed stock, 104 , 3£ do., 97^ New Zealand long-berried wheat, 43s 6d, firmer. For New Zealand wheat on passage, sellers are asking 42s 6d, but buyers will not give them more than 41s 6d, Canterbury mutton, 4Jd ; Wellington do, 4d. JSew Zealand beef, 3Jd. South Australian wheat, 445, firm ; Victorian do., 48s 9d, firm. Hemp, Auckland, fair, £22, market weaker; good, £24; Wellington, medium, £2O 10s. April 18. New Zealand cheese is quoted from 44s to 56s per cwt. A consignment of wheat, ex barque Firth of Dornoch, from Lyttelton, sold at 4ls.
