Auckland, February zo. The bodies of John Burns, J. and Alfred Stevens, drowned in the Ponui boat accident, have been recovered. There is no Bign of that of the fourth young man, Hale, and it may be that his body has been swept out to sea. February 24. A lad named Henry Melsop, sixteen years of age, was drowned off Coromandel on Sunday by the upsetting of a boat, and of two other yonng men who were with him one swam ashore whilst the other brother of the drowned lad was rescued. Defalcations nave been discovered in the accounts of O'Halloran, the postmaster at Whangarei, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. The body of Miss Harling, drowned on Saturday, was recovered to-day.

New Plymouth, Feb. 24The train from Wanganui was delayed last night owing to an accident near Waiongona. A bag of grass seed fell off and got caught in the wheel of the next truck and caused it to jump off the rails and drag three others off with it, nearly taking a passenger carriage also. The engine was stopped and a gang of men got to release the couplings from the derailed trucks. The train started again for here, arriving about three hours after time. Wellington, Feb. 24. The store of Trapp, at Alfredton, was broken into and £3O stolen. An attempt was also made to fire the store but the flames were discovered and extinguished. Mr Robert B. Carpenter, a bookseller of Molesworth street, who arrived in Wellington in 1840, died to-day. Palmerston Noeth, Feb. 24. A young man named Withers was drowned while crossing the Pohangina river yesterday. Westpoet, Feb. 24. A boy eight years old named Patrick Bane, son of a miner, was drowned at Addison's Flat this afternoon, while bathing in a dam. Several boys about the same age as deceased were present but were unable to rescue him. Cheistchuech, Feb. 23. A very sudden death occurred at Eangiora on Sunday morning, the deceased being the wife of Mr James Adams, an employed MrC. Chinnery. The poor woman was apparently in her usual state of health when she got up, but about 9 a.m. she was attacked with what is supposed to be heart disease, and died in a few minutes,
