Auckland, February 23. A heavy rainfall on Saturday evening caused a landslip on the railway line just beyond the Newmarket entrance to the domain tunnel, and stopped traffic to Newmarket for the night. The slip was removed yesterday and communication restored. Napiee, February 23. A heavy sea has been running since Friday, and gradually increased till this morning, when it smashed down several chains in length of the parapet of Marine Parade, washed away the roadway and footpaths, and broke down fences in front of houses. The seas went clean over the breakwater, swept away the diver’s dressing box containing diving gear, and carried away the monolith easing, besides doing minor damage. The ship Oamaru lost both her anchors, but the wind being off the shore she hoisted sail and stood out.
