GREAT FIRES IN AUSTRALIA.

Sydney, Oct. 17

Tremendous bush fires are raging at Lismore, an agricultural district, situated on the north. arm of the Richmond River, about -520 miles north of Sydney. Yast tracts of territory have been devastated, and the township of Clunes is in danger. The. inhabitants of the last-mentioned place are out fighting the flames.

Heddenrig shearing station, at Nevertire, one of the finest in the colony, has been destroyed by fire, Four thousand sheep perished in the flames, and it is estimated that the loss is fully £IB,OOO. .Incendiarism is suspected, as the owner of the station is shearing with free labor.
