AUCTIONEERS' REPORT,
GERALDINE.
Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales for the week ended Oct. 11th 1890, as follows
During the week we have to report a very active demand for all kinds of stock, especially sheep suitable for freezing, and fat cattle. In fact, the supply of fat stock was very far short of the present demand. Pleasant Point—At above yards, on Monday, we sold 146 crossbred wethers and maiden ewes (fat) at 19s, 70 do do at 15s sd, 109 do do at 16s 3d, 88 do do at 16s 3d, 150 merino wethers (fat) at 10s, 42 crossbred wethers 4tooth at 15s 7d, 37 crossbred wethers and maiden ewes at 11s lid, 130 crossbred ewes with lambs at foot at 14s 4d, 2 cows at £1 7s and £2, 6 steers and heifers (2 year-olds) at £1 9s. Temuka Yards At the Temuka live stock market, on Tuesday, the 7th, the yarding for the day consisted of 2500 sheep, 185 cattle, and 65 pigs. The bulk of the entry was sold under keen competition at the following prices:—Crossbred wethers and maiden ewes (fat) 17s 6d, 17s, to 16s 6d ; merino wethers (fat), 10s 3d, 10s, to 9s lid; three-quarter-bred hoggets, 12s lOd; fat cattle (heiters, light weights), £6 15s, £6, to £5 15s; cows, springing, £3 7s 6d to £3; dry cows, £1 10s to £1; 2-year-old steers and heifers, £2 to £1 15s; yearlings, £1 5s to £1; calves, 10s. Pigs, bacon sorts, £1 7b, £1 ss, to £1; strong stores, 15s, ]2s 6d, to 10s; small stores, 7s to 6s; weaners, 5s to 4s f 6d. Washdyke Yards —At the Washdyke Yards on 'J hursday there was a small entry, and no sales were effected at auction. Privately we sold 28 crossbred wethers at 17s 6d.
Sheepskins, Wool, Etc.—On Wednesday we held our usual fortnightly sale at the store of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, Timaru, 1 here was keen competition on all lots submitted. Bag wool sold at 7£d per lb; butchers’ green crossbred skins, 6s 7d to 5s 9d; do merino skins, 5s to 4s 9d. Private Sales —During the week we have sold 640 crossbred wethers and maiden ewes for freezing at 17s 6d to 17s,
Horses —At our yards, Geraldine, on Tuesday, we held a sale of draught, light harness, and hackney horses. Competition was good for the right stamp of any class, and prices realised were —for draughts, £2O, £l6, to £ls 10s; light harness horses, £7 10s to £6 15s; young sound upstanding hacks, £ll, £B, to £7 10s; weeds and scrubbers, £5 5s to £3 10s.
ENGLISH MARKETS. I London, Oct. 11. There has been a fall ©f 6d in tallow. The Quotation was 27s 6d to 28s 6d. p i The total number of bales w catalogued up to date is 244,000, ot which 125,000 have been sold. In all 13,000 bales were taken for export. Leather, best quality, Bd. Hides, 3ifd and 3fd.
