MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the board was held in the office, Feel Forest, on Friday-the 13th inst. The members present were Messrs C. G. Tripp, R. G. J. Dennistoun, and R.. ; Thew. ' In the absence of the chairman Mr, C G; Tripp was voted to< the chair. OOBEEiPOHDBNOK.

The following correspondence was read,and.considered:— , ''..-., From the Hon. J. B. Acland requesting leave of absence from the meetings of the board during the present session of. the General Assembly. —The request was granted. From "Mr R. McMillan, requesting permission to erect a gate across the road between sections 25802 and 26256, Orari Gorge, aIBO asking the board to, shingle a part of the, road leading to his bouse. —Resolyed that permission to ereq t the gate be granted on the usual conditions, and that the road leading to his house be improved and shingled in the worst places, the work to be done by the board's ; team. From the Manager Mouutn Peel Station offering to purchase the stand 7f ing timber upon the unused road, between sections 1972 and 3307; at the valuation placed upon it by the, board'B overseer, The offer was accepted, upon condition that the timber be cleared off within a specified time. From the Union Bank of Australia, Timaru, advising the board of renewal) of fixed deposit. : From the Chief Surveyor, stating that the board's map would be plotted:; up if forwarded to the survey office, the board paying the cost of the work. From.;Mr T. Jeffcoate requesting that the. name of Mr B. Griffiths, be placed on the valuation roll far property lately in his occupation at Eain cliff.

From the Commissioner of Crown Lands stating that amounts - which have accrued to credit of the board under the Lands Act 1885, in respect' of Deferred Payment and Perpetual Lease lauds, will"be available whenever the board makes application for them and submits plans of proposed works for the approval of the Land Board. From the Colonial Secretary's office, forwarding a copy of an order of fhe House of Representatives requesting a return showing the revenue of the board for the year ending 31st March 1889, with the annual amount paid jEor salaries and office expenses. —The clerk was directed to furnish the required information.

From the Geraldine County Council in reference to the collection of the Timaru Harbor Board rate, stating that should outstanding rates have,to be sued for the County Council would have to do so.—Proposed by Mr Mackay, seconded by Mr Dennistoun, and carried—" That, seeing the County Council cannot delegate its powers ,to any other public body, this board regrets that it cannot undertake the collection of the Harbor Board Bate." BTISCBLLAJiTEOUS. . The resolution of which notice was given at last meeting, that a general rate of one half-penny in the £ be levied on all the rateable property in. the district, was confirmed. Resolved—" That notice be given to all persons having gorse growing on roads adjoining their properties to remove and destroy the same." That the amount at credit of the Contractors Deposit Account be transferred to the District Fund account, and that the contractors deposit account be closed." ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £4B 10s Id were passed for payment, after which the board adjourned.
