PRESENTATION.

Last Friday afternoon a very interesting ceremony took plaee in the Pleasant Yalley school, when Miss Miller, who has resigned her position "Jf as mistress, was presented by the children with a token of their appreciation of her efforts to impart instruction to them, in the shape of a very handsome and chaste gold bracelet and a brooch. A number of the parents and ex-pupils of the "school having assembled Mr E, Brophy, the j ehairman of the committed, alluded to

the great loss the Bchool sustained in the departure of Miss Miller from their midßt. The inspector's reports bore testimony to her good work, as also did the excellence of the sewing done by the girls of the school during the past five years. " He then called upon Miss Kate Lysaght, the senior girl in the school, to present the souvenirs and read the address as follows: : "' ! ' "Pleasant Yalley, 15th August, 1890. " Dear Miss Miller,—VW, the pupils of the Pleasant Yalley school, regret to hear that circumstances have compelled jou to resign your position as mistress of this school. Before leaving ih.a district »e wish to express to you our. deep sorrow and regret at your departure from amongst us, but when we know that it is for the benefit of others that you have given up a profession you have always tak<m so much

delight in we must not therefore be self sh, although we cannot help expressing out feelings for the loss of one so dear to us. For the past five years you have been out teacher, and during that 1 : tittle by your uniform kindness and evident desire to * further our best interests by every zne«ns "** in your power, you have completely won our affections, and it is-with feelings of genuine sorrow that we-part with you. We would take this opportunity of sin* cerely thanking you for the patience and forbearance with which you have at all times treated us. As a somewhat more lasting msmento of the sffection and re* spect which every child in the school feels towards you we ask you to kindly accept this bracelet and the accompanying brooch as a small present from us. In wishing .you an affectionate good-bye we trust that your future life may be one of happiness and true prosperity." Mr Menzies, head teacher, replied on behalf of Miss Miller, and in doing so expressed .deep gratefulness for the handsome present, which Misi Miller would value not for its intrinsic worth alone, but in the higher sense of show* ing the affection of her pupils. &e also expressed the pleasure Miss Miller had experienced in imparting instruction to all who had beentrader her

charge, and said she had at all times watched the development of the young ideas with great and lire! J interest At the close of the proceedings the friends and children partook of the hospitality of the ladies of the district in the schoolroom.
