B,Aii.wi.T Accident. —A collision occurred on Tuesday night at Johnsonville, five miles from Wellington, on the Manawatu line. Some trucks were being shunted, nhan they got loose and dashed into the carriages. The guard’s van was smashed and the mail van upset. It caused a fire, but the flames were quickly extinguished. No one was hurt. The damage is estimated at £3OO. Shocking Occurrence. —At Oldhill, England, a working roan noraed Darby and his wife put their threa children, aged respectively seven, six and three years to bed on Saturday night, 10th May, while they went to market. On their return they found the house full of smoke, and on going upstairs discovered the throe children lying on the floor. Two were dead, having been suffocated, while the eldest, a girl, died on the following Monday. One ef the boys got some matches, and striking one, threw it at his sister, setting the bad on fire. They then jumped out of bed and ran into the room in which they were found. The bouse is a small one, and would speedily be filled with smoke, and it is supposed the children were overcome before they could raise an alarm.
