THE LABOR REVOLT.
London, Jan. 16. The Dockers* contend that increased wages in the eastern ports will prevent a threatened diversion in the shipping trade. Laborers in the wool stores meet on Wednesday with the object of securing the abolition of the system under which one man in each gang is paid extra to rash the work. Unless the men succeed in attaining their object a strike is probable. The gas strike has come to an end, the funds being exhausted. Jan. 18. Five hundred wharfingers at Bermondsey have struck for payment during meal time. Berlin, Jan. 18. The colliery hands in Westphalia are now demanding a reduction of the hoars of labor to 8 hours and an increase of wages by 50 per cent, Ihe port stokers and coal men of Hamburg have struck, owing to a reduction in the rate of wages, lea thousand miners of Charterton have renewed the strike. Sydney, Jan. 17.
A conference of delegates from the various railway employes’ associations throughout Australia meets here in August nest, to consider a scheme for the federation of the associations.
The wharf laborers have passed new rales which they are about to submit to the steamship owners. No definite information is available, but it is understood that an increase of Is per day is involved for men employed by the day a?\d much larger increase for permanent hands, also soma arrangement of over, time. ISew demands are made as to paymem for spoil lime.
