The overseer's report was read and dealt with as follows : »I have the honor to report for the ■i Information of the board as under: “The contracts in hand have progressed
, favorably during the month. _ The followhave been completed since the last meeting of the board—Shingling Wells’ road, J. Beckloy ; shingling Seale’s road, Waitobi, M. Lawlor, The shingling on the contracts at Hilton and Somerville’s joad 3 Waibi Bosh, is just about completed
and will be out of hand in a few days.' The following have also bean attended to —Repairs to school bridge, Pleasant Talley, Rae’s bridge, Raukapuka, Belfiold road, Foster’s Bush road, Rangitata road, and others. Henderson’s road : As instructed I have inspected the line of road applied for by Maxwell and others. This would be an extension of Henderson s road for about 55 chains to give access to Collett’s land. The ground is very broken, being much cut up by intersecting gullies, and requiring seven culverts in the above distance. The present would be a favorable time for carrying out the work, as the ground is too wet and swampy te be worked in winter to advantage. Waterrace fords, Orari-Waihi : As directed 1 have examined the fords crossing the road on the Orari Flat. The crossings are fairly well shaped, but in a few instances have not been taken out sufficiently deep to receive a load of shingle or broken metal to wishstand heavy trade. The inlets and outlets at sides* require sloping off, spoil levelling, and stones breaking. I have seeU the engineer, and he informs me the work is not out of the contractors' hands yet, and.he will have the fords attended to as per suggestion made. Gorsa on roads : I have served amended notices on a few ratepayers to clear and grub gorse. Since then 1 have inspected the roads, and find some have paid no attention whatever to the notices. In one or two others the gorse is being cleared, but in a very dilatory manner. In no case did I find anyone at work. Poisoned wheat: I have obtained a fresh supply of poisoned wheat for the turnip sewoo. Gatea on roads: I have written to persons haying gates ou public roads, but in some' esses the notices have been totally ignored—-the obstructions are not removed lor gates hung propeily.—l am, etc., “W.
