TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Temuka Road Board was held on Tuesday. Present—-Messrs Talbot (chairman), Bissett, and Aspiuall, COEBESPON-DEITGE, Correspondence was read from— Messrs Whitehead and Son, stating that they bad applied to the county council for a license to slaughter on part of R.S. 6383.—The same received the approval of the board. From Mr Caleb Woodley, offering to keep the drain on Toner’s Road cleaned for a term of years for a reasonable consideration, and pointing out that it would be preferable to make some such arrangement, as the drain would then never be allowed to get blocked. Overseer to see Hr Woodley, and obtain offer for doing the work suggested. From Messrs Harper and Co,, intimating the forwarding under separate cover conveyance from Rhodes’ executors to the Queen of part of R.S. 7818, Register No, 80,297, and asking that receipt might be acknowledged.— Conveyance being duly received the clerk to acknowledge same. INTERVIEWS. Mr Palmer waited upon the board in reference to the Oxford-Temuka bridge ford, and asked that certain improvements might be made. He considered that a permanent ford could be made at a small cost.—After consideration the overseer was instructed to make the ford safe for traffic, and was authorised to give Mr Palmer the opportunity of carrying out the work if he desired to do so. Mr D. Seaton drew the attention of the board to the condition of the byroad from Kennford Farm to Mr Mitchell’s corner, on the Waitohi terrace. The ruts required filling up and other repairs executing. The overseer was authorised to attend to same.

[ Mr Bissett applied to have a portion 'of Stewart’s Eoad shingled and some small repairs made.—lt was resolved that tenders be invited for the work required, and be considered next meeting, overseer’s beioet.

The overseer’s report was read aa follows; f< To the Chairman, “ Sir, —I hare thd honor to report for the past month as follows: “ Tenders have been invited for contract No 14. improving part of the road through Dinda Farm, Contract No, 9, shingling on Main South Jioad, has been completed. Contract No. 13, formation of part of Cramond’s Road, will be finished in a few days, and a cheque has been drawn for payment when done. Daring the month a timber culvert near Hughs’a has been taken out, and is being rephced with one of concrete. Water-tables, Main South Hoad, have been cleaned, and those at Winchester are being attended to. I have had nineteen chains of drain on Badham’s road cleaned, and would recommend that the remaining portion (about 60 chains) be done. The cost of this would be about £ —. Rates ; The total amount of 1889-90 rate collected to date is £6ll 7s 6J, leaving a balance of £B3O outstanding. Eggs and Birds : During the month I have received 1295 j dozen of eggs and birds.—l am, etc., “F. Archer.” It was resolved to have about 60 chains of drain at Greenaway’s Road cleaned. TENDERS. The following tenders were received for Contract .No. 13 —Part formation, Dinda Pam; E, Counihan, £18; P,

O’Mara, £l7 Is; W. Hopkinson, £l6 (accepted). ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £133 13s were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated.
