AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. TIMARU. ' Messrs. Oracle, Maclean and Go. report for the past fortnight endipg Saturday, as follows:
) Horses— Since ©ur lash report entries at the Timaru Hbrse Bazaar have been small, both in draughts ahd hacks, and orily a limited business has been , doing. Really gopd quality, however, commands attention aid finds buyers. We quote best draughts at from £2O to £26 10s; £l2 to £18; and inferior, £6 to £10; hacks to £ls.
Sheep—Business at Washdyke has almost come to a standstill, There are no stores offering at these yards, and the supply of fat sheep is nbt enough to meet- the requirements bf the local butchery consequently they are compelled to look for stock elsbwhere. We sold 81 crossbred wethers at 13s 6d, 98 merino wethers l (light) at 7s sd, and privately 200 merino wethers, prime quality, 180 crossbreds, and 350 crossbred hoggets. . Cattle —There are very few' fat cattle coming forward at present, and, as in the case of sheep, butchers have to deal privately. We sold 6 bullocks at £6 10s, yearlings at 20s to 235, calves at 15s, cows in milk and to calve £3 to £6 10s.
Pigs—At Washdyke we sold 31, viz , 8 weaners at Bs, 20 slips at 13s 6d, S porkers at 27s 6d to 80s.
Skins—At our sales on the 18th inst. we catalogued and sold 1038 skins. Competition was rather slack, and prices were not within 6d per skin of our former sale. Best crossbreds fetched 5s 6d to 7s 4d; second quality, 4s to 5s 3d; best merinos, 4s to 5s 3d; seconds, 8s to 3s 6d; and privately we placed 1731 factory skihs. Hides—We have sold during the week 45 country hides, all light weights, at per lb, calf skins 3d to 3id per lb. Pat—We placed over tons of country lots at from 12s to 15s per cwt.
ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Sept. 26. Twelve hundred bales of New Zealand hemp hare been sold at an advance of £2 to £3 on late rates. New Zealand mutton is unchanged. Beef, forequarters, 3-|d j hindquarters, 4£d. . : At the wool sales prices remain firm. The demand is active, and there have been very few withdrawals.;, ;j > ; A further shipment of gold to 'the extent of. £300,000 was Beni to, Eio Janiefo to-day.
New Zealand 4> per cent, inscribed stock is steady at 108|. Australian wheat, * : ex: warehouse, 39s 6d, market firmer: New Zealand long-berried, ex store, is firmer at 38s 6d.
Sugar, German beet, I3s 6d, nominal; Java,! 16s 9d. At-the 1 wool auctions jgoqd Scoured merinos showed an advance frbmld to Id per lb on the prices obtained at the July sales. .‘Medium scoured and greasy merinos were £d, and fine crossbreds from , par to above the prices realised for the same sorts at those sales.
